Personal Statement

Creativity and designing has interested me from a young age, but the past couple of years I have been mainly loving interior design. (This started from Interior designers who I found through the blogging community like Erin Gates who is the founder of Erin Gates Design who adds like to all types of Interiors making them modern yet traditional spaces whilst working to all budge sizes.) I love that she can adapt any design to go with the client's needs. I am currently studying a UAL Art and Design extended course, an online Interior Design course, I also keep a blog based on, beauty and lifestyle. I always keep my eyes open for unique and beautiful ideas which I can place into practice in the years to come. I have been writing a blog for three years now and have a reasonable audience size. I would like to eventually include more interior design posts, gain a bigger audience and get paid so I can fund the business. I am very socialable and organised, which will help me to run my own business linked to interior design. With the courses I am doing, they are helping me. To understand planning, designing and layouts. I am motivated to do my best at everything I do and to grow my business to the best it can be, to do this is am looking in library's business and interior design books, blogs, and talking to self-employed businesses for any tips. I have worked as a paper girl, in a cafè with apartments which I was required to clean and have had work experience in an interior design shop and a disability school which all helped me to understand how business works and how much I like to keep busy and succeed. I am generally known for my positivity and taking opportunities which are given to me. Since 2005 I've been part of Girl Guiding and have been chosen to take part in international events in Switzerland and Austria which I have been great experiences to see interiors in different cultures and I was able to be a group leader and take part in a range of activities which inspired me with colours, patterns and unique ideas. Having experience in these have helped me grow into a responsible and reliable person, and I am motivated to build up my own interior design business and being self employed will help me gain confidence and will show these responsibilities. I am going start by starting a Etsy shop online to earn enough contacts, money and experience to have my own shop, I will be mainly getting customers from my blog which will be a good way of getting my business out there.

Britain - Art in the 60's

Fur isn't easy to style, but here they have a fur coat with an Indian style top and a plain skirt. Patterns from the top don't over power the fur too much and to stop that they have paired this with a plain skirt. I would say that is more of a relaxed outfit for during the day because the outfit isn't put together as well as some of the style i have seen.

Fedora hats have come back in recent trends again, but in the 60's in Britain, these type of hats helped to make an outfit more dressy. The high necked dress with a slight pattern on has been transformed by adding a light coloured peach scarf. Lots of accessories has been added to add texture to the basic dress.

These remind me of the lab coats used in the science industry with a colour change and a high collar. paired with fishnet tights and a hat and this was a big fashion trend within the 60's. These came in a variety of colours and patterns including checked, plain, striped and patterned.

60's

In 1967 Seventeen Magazine showed the classic Shift dress, a yellow and white honeycomb printed A-line style dress, which were paired with matching yellow small heeled shoes and white fishnet stockings. One of them have a white collar which give the dresses more of a classier feel. These dresses came in a range of colours.

Another popular style in the 60's was monochrome which is creeping back in fashion at the moment. A lot of lines have been created within this outfit from the A-line of the dress itself and the lines made from the bold contrast of the black and white. the accessories which have been paired with the outfit really interest me, because nowadays we would be pairing this with a bright necklace and gold buckled shoes/ boots but in the 60's they would have made the whole outfit black and white including the bracelets, over sized earrings and flat shoes.

This is probably my favourite outfit of the three and this is because of the full skirt dress and the wide neckline with a thick white collar. This is classy dress and is more of a dancing/ evening wear. I love the unique style top which has been worn over the dress to give off a different vintage look over the lace feel. The light use of accessories have been carefully selected to not over power the classic dress, by having small pearl earrings, a bangle and small black heels.

Degree's

FDA stands for Foundation Degree Arts which is a two year course which if you decide to drop out you will still have a degree the average funding for this course is around six thousand pound a year , some say that you do an FDA before a BA (bachelor of arts degree) so you can bring the foundation degree up to a full degree, but after doing both of these to make it up to a full degree, is going to be quite expensive so if I were to do this I would need to save up a lot.

The first degree course I am interested in is the Interior Design, it's a BA course, this is a three year course which is full time. This is a very in depth course which will help me to understand and learn loads about interior design, whilst giving me the flexibility to see other parts of design and going down the path I would like to specialise in. I will also learn about the technical side with computers, which will be very handy for when I go through my journey.

The entry requirements I will need are either a minimum of two A levels, a relevant subject higher diploma pathway, or a BTEC, which I have. I will need to pay nine thousand pound per year to pay for this three year course but there will be more costs due to printing, materials and tools. Bursaries are for offer depending on the requirements for them and because this course is full time if I need a job on top I will need to try and work around my course.

My next course which I am researching into is the Diploma interior design which is an in depth career course including the key skills which will be needed for a career in the design profession. After this course it will help me to start my own interior design based business, and lots of skills practically and mentally related to interior design.

The fee for this course is £24,500,00. I won't need any art or design experience, usually the entry standard is a degree but mature students with lots of learning experience behind them get in too. This would be really helpful and look good on my CV for future employment and I will learn lots from this.

Interior architecture BA is the last course I am looking into. Helping me to understand and learn about designing interior spaces, through Ict, drawing, practical and mentally. There is part time work available which will fit around the studies and they will help you will CV writing, and preparing for interviews. This is a three year course and will cost £9,000. I will need to create a strong portfolio, a levels/ BTEC, a high diploma, and at least three GCSEs minimum grade C.

The best course for me would be the interior design BA because it's in Brighton university which is one of my favourite cities, also it's near London for my part time job/ hobby of blogging where I would need to attend events, meetings etc. The course it's self is the most interesting as it includes architecture which I have always loved, also that I would be able to learn another side of interior designing. It's not too much money compared to the others so that would be a bonus. This would make my CV look really good because it shows that I like learn and that I'm intelligent in that subject as well as that it shows that I'm well organised and committed.

Gap Year

I have been thinking about my gap year a lot because I want to be able to achieve things I wouldn't normally have time to do. One of my ideas which I have been researching a lot into is the classic travelling around the world. I have always been an explorer, going to places I've never been, and learning about new cultures. I would do this with my life time best friend, we are planning to go to tourist places like New York, Paris, and Las Vegas but also countries where we can explore and find unique places which isn't rated as much as it should be like India, Africa and Singapore.

This will hopefully happen in a few year when we have saved as much money as we can so we can try and do all the things we want to do without worrying about the money side of things. I will gain many skills, and I will learn and get a feel for other cultures, I will also be able to compare it to our own. One of the best parts is that I will be able to make lots of friends from this experience from all around the world. This will be a big learning experience for me because I will learn about planning, how to organise trips, and gain on my social skills.

I will have to be very organised to make sure I get on the right flights in plenty of time, I will need to plan and organise the money side of things to ensure I have enough money for each day. I will need to research and sort out the adventures and sightings I would like to see and do, also I will need to research into sorting out my visa and passports. I will build many skills and experiences which would look really good on my CV because it makes me look like I am multi talented and it will show businesses and companies that I am willing to learn, try new things and that I work hard to achieve as much as I can in the time given.

I have always wanted to spend a year based on my blog, and growing my audience, attending events and working with companies to promote their products. I will try to write a blog post every week day and travel to events around the world which will get my blog out there. Events including blogger/ press days, company launches, cat walks, and meet ups.

After a while of blogging every week day, I will allow adverts to be place on my blog so I will earn a little money on the side to help for products and fashion to feature on my blog, another way I will carry on by making money is by receiving products, clothes from companies whom will give me money for getting their products out there.

I will need to work hard to make sure I upload high quality content to keep my readers interested. I will need to acquire and improve on my skills like my design, photography, writing, and social skills. I also need to develop my fashion and textile skills so I can pass this onto my readers. I need good social skills and I need to build up contacts to help me to do projects like bringing out my own book to do with my blog, interior design and fashion so If I were to take a year to blog I would like to bring out my own book too.

My third gap year idea is to volunteer in Africa. It has always been a country which has been very interesting to me I love their culture and how they live is so different to here in the UK. I will help build orphanages, once finished I hope to volunteer there to help get the orphanage up and running, I will teach, play and help the children to succeed in life. I will feel happy that I will have helped children in need to live life to the fullest and enjoy every part of it whilst learning along the way.

This would give both me and the African children confidence. As well as that, I would meet new people and make friends from around the world which I could stay in contact with via PenPals. I can help communities who need a little help to make their quality of life better so they are happier and healthier. To achieve this I will need to gain a few skills, like basic carpentry and basic sign language which could help me for when their is language barriers. I will need to do a lot of research on how and where a outs I can do this.

A gap year can look really good on a CV because it can show your commitment to something also it can share that you like to help people, which shows your social skills are good. It means that I can show companies that I can learn fast and that I am willing to try new things.

Apprenticeships

The first apprenticeship which i have researched is a landscape designer where the role consist of producing drawings, working out costs and communicating with the customers to ensure they receive their needs. This would be full time for two years but can be offered a job at the end of it if you have what it takes. The requirements are a degree in design, and have a related field of experience, plus English and Maths to have an opportunity for this type of apprenticeship. Ideally i would need knowledge and skills within sketching, designing techniques and landscaping. Doing this apprenticeship i would gain lots of confidence with working with clients and being able to solve clients problems and needs. I would also be able to grown my drawing of layout plans as this is a big part to doing this.

The second apprenticeship, is to do social media for a company, where i would be updating their social media’s, responding to customer reviews and email marketing campaigns. I will grow my skills to creating engaging content which will catch sustomers eyes, i will also be able to promote effectively. To be up for this apprenticeship i would need a good ability to writing, effective time management and to have a professional manner in all situations. This would help me personally and for the future. This would be a part time apprenticeship so i would be able to have a small job on top.

Employment Oppitunities

My first job opportunity i am looking to go into is Interior Design, which is where you manage projects and design interior and in some cases exterior of a room. To reach this i will need to be organised, mature, and i will need to work on my business skills, also i will make sure that i don’t work to just my taste but to the clients to ensure they are happy and receive what they want, showing professional results whilst being practical, safe, attractive and meet the needs of the clients.

I will need a series of qualifications to achieve this, two in which being Design Craft in level 3, or a Diploma in Art and Design. I have learned alot through the Diploma in Art and Design and i hope to carry on and learn more in the future to gain skills to be an Interior Designer.
This will be a full time job but with flexable hours as i will travel to clients houses and i will work from home when needed. This would show other companies I work with in the future that I a, capable of being in a team, and that I am creative.

Blogging is another job opportunity which i am thinking about going down, as i have been Blogging for over three years now about fashion, beauty and lifestyle, i am really enjoying it. After alot of research about earning income through blogging i have found out that when i’m eighteen i can start to earn money from my blog, i need to work hard to make it my full time job and i will be working flexable hours from home. I will also attend events, meeting and meet ups so i can grow and get my blog known. I will need to improve my website and graphic design skills, my textiles knowledge so i can improve my posts about fashion. I could volunteer to write for a magazine or the newspaper so i can improve my writing skills.

This will be a high advantage on my CV because it shows that i am committed, organised and confident. When i am ready to take a new step onto another employment, blogging can make me look like I have social media management, marketing, fashion and graphic design skills. Bloggers are known as ideas people so this shows that I can come up with new plans and designs. As well as that I have created my relationships with brands and companies which could help them.

My final job path I'd like to try is to run a fashion based company where I'd organise and manage new fashion trends and my own a fashion magazine, my inspiration for this is the film Devil wears Prada because I'm very fond of the events, organising and coming up with new fresh ideas. I will need this UAL Diploma course will help me to understand techniques and designing. I will need designing skills, graphic and writing skills. This will be a full time job which I will need to be constantly working on new designs and organising events.

I will need a lot of training and need to work my way up, it will be a valuable experience which I would be very proud of and I would gradually employ others to help me and it would be a high work quality where lots of people would dream to work. I will need to
acquire many skills so I can achieve this but I think that it can be done.

Pop Art

Pop Art is an art movement which was started in the 1950s in Britain and the United States. The main artists including Andy Warhole and Roy Lichtenstein and known for its bright colours and uniqueness.

This is called the "crying Girl' and was made in 1964 by Roy Lichtenstein. This is one of my favourite styles of Pop Art as its made up of lots of spots. I love that there are only three colours within this picture as they stand out a lot more. The black outlines make the whole picture bold and stronger.

Marilyn Monroe was painted by Andy Warhol who was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement Pop Art. Marilyn has been painted nine times but one being in real-life colours then the rest of the pictures the colours have been changed up.

Another by Roy Lichtensein Its a person holding a thunderbolt, the contrasting colours emphasises the thunderbolt. This is painted with oil and magna on a canvas.
