During the 1900 to 1914 the Germans opposed Britons attempt to defeat the Boers in South Africa, and Kaiser Wilhelm, a newspaper interview said that the English were mad and that the Germans didn't like them. As well as these events the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary was shot by Gavrillo Princip, a young Serb terrorist, in Sarajevo in Bosnia.
Textile items which were avalible in 1900-1914:
This is a two piece printed dress which was around in 1905 to 1910. The skirt itself is cream with purple/ pink and green swirls with ruffles along the bottom, on the bodice and the cuffs. The features like the high band collar and built in padding in the back of the skirt add a unique structure to the two piece set. Its also featuring in the North Carolina Museum of History.
In 1910, this would be the classic style wedding dress. An oyster coloured satin dress with voile over the top. The high neck and the long fitted sleeves are made by embroidering flowers and leaves with lace fitted around the edge and satin covered buttons from the wrist to the elbow to give that to give a higher class and posh feel. The bodice and shoulders are overlaid with voile and threaded with buckles which are covered in satin to form the bust line. The voile over skirt falls from the bust using open tucks that give the skirt that fullness.
This is an evening gown and was made in 1912. Made from a light green silk over a gray satin creates elegancy and class. To add more of an evening feel, rhinestones and glitter have been added across the dress. I think this would be more for a jazz night or parties.
This is a beautiful pink evening gown which would mainly be worn for dinner parties in 1907. A dress made from a pink silk muslin which a lighter pink silk underneath, to create for depth within the dress, over this is an elegant cream lace made from a machine mixed with a pink lace made from satin.
