Personal Statement

Creativity and designing has always interested me from a young age, but for the past couple of years I have been mainly been loving the interior design side. This started from Interior designers who I found through the blogging community like Erin Gates who is the founder of Erin Gates Design who adds like to all types of interiors making them modern yet traditional spaces whilst working to all budget sizes. I love that she can adapt any design to go with the client’s needs, though bringing in a modern but very attractive look.

I spend most my time working on the UAL Art and Design course and an online Interior design course, whilst keeping a blog based on fashion, beauty and lifestyle. I always keep my eyes open for unique and beautiful ideas which I can place into practice in the years to come. I have been writing a blog for three years now and have a reasonable audience size, when I have my own house I will start to include interior design projects and ideas.

I am very socialable, and organised, which will help me to run my own business linked to interior design. With the courses I am doing, they are helping me to understand planning, designing and layouts. I am motivated to do my best at everything I do and to grow my business to the best it can be, to do this I am looking in library’s, business and interior design book, blogs, and talking to self-employed businesses for any tips.

I have worked as a paper girl, in a café with apartments which I was required to clean and have had work experience at an Interior Design shop and a disability school which helped me to understand how business works and how much I like to keep busy and succeed. I am generally known for my positivity and taking opportunities which are given to me.

Since 2005 I’ve been part of Girl Guiding and have been chosen to take part in international events in Switzerland and Austria which have been great experiences to see the rest of the world, be a group leader, and i’m committed. I love to travel, I adore to see the world and I treasure the little things which most people take for granted. I mainly have a plan and I know exactly what I’m going to be doing but I also like to be spontaneous.

Project Proposal | FMP

Throughout this course I have been concentrating on fashion and clothing which I have been really enjoying. I have learned a lot whilst doing it like pattern cutting, designing, researching and sewing techniques, but in my last project before going onto my final major project I wanted to see how well I could do a project on an interior design so i could have a clear idea of what I wanted to do for my final project.
I am glad I did this because I have learned that I am stronger in all areas of researching, designing and making in fashion. My last project wasn't my best as i wanted to learn lots of new techniques but i underestimated the amount of time this would take, so unfortunately ran out of time and the outcome was undeveloped in relation to what i originally wanted to make.
Section 2: Project Concept
UAL Awarding Body Level 3 Extended Diploma Project Proposal Doc.

I intend to design and produce a bag which fashion bloggers will love and style effectively. I will research current popular fashion bloggers who create fashion trends by pairing and styling different type pieces which would not normally go together. I am going to do this by reading their blog posts and asking fashion bloggers themselves what qualities they look for when buying a bag. I will also research into what bags are on the market already along with the styles which work well. By doing this I will be able to design a bag which will be unique but meets the needs of on trend fashion enthusiasts. I am going to take a lot of my inspiration from Pinterest as this shows a lot of unique and different ideas all in one places where I can produce new and adventurous designs.
I have decided to use leather as my chosen material because it is associated with elegance, and expensive, as fashion bloggers do not mind paying more for high end items if they are keeping up with current trends and the items are well made. I am going to research high end designers to take inspiration from and help me to design the best possible bag.
Im going to present my bag on a mannequin so you can see the feel for the look i am trying to achieve, along with three final presentation boards, one being a mood board with all my initial ideas and the others are my final boards with my professional studio photos and shoot photos which will be in the style of fashion bloggers, which will all be recorded on my blog.
Section 3: Evaluation
So i can keep on track, i am going to write and stay closely to a journal and a weekly planner to ensure i do not fall behind and so i can make sure i do everything i need to do in the right order, to make my project the best it can be. I am going to work closely with my peer review buddy and having 1 to 1’s with my tutor to ensure that i am going in the right direction and to see if i can improve in any areas of my work.

Blogger Style Photoshoot

Blogger Style

Bloggers have a very distinctive style. A minimal, with limited colours seem to very popular with monochrome shades and basic colours like greys and beige. Having a minimal outfit, means you can have more of a patterned bag. After doing my research i did find that leather bags are most popular as they are generally high end and well made so they tend to be more expensive which means they are more special to keep and style. I realised that leather bags which were already on the market weren't patterned or unique they were more basic so thats why i went for more of a different style fabric.

Leather Handbags

For my final major project i wanted to try something different to my usual clothing path, I have chosen to make a leather hand bag which will be designed and styled by bloggers (Myself being one of them which will then be posted on my own personal blog). I wanted to make my bag out of leather because its currently in the fashion trends, especially having high end companies like Chanel on the market. I did a lot of research to find and experiment, so when it came to designing, i could come up with a high end, functional and a classic handbag, relating back to my research.
I created my own board on Pinterest as well which was really useful when designing!

When looking at high end design which were already on the market i saw that geometric shapes were very popular and gave that minimalistic feel which is what i wanted to base my handbag on. I looked in to this further and found that i wanted to go down this route as being a blogger myself, i know that they love unique shapes as they are great to jazz up a minimal outfit.

When it came to designing i had so many options of the shapes and colours, but after a lot problem solving and deciding what would be best i decided to go for a prism with a different type of leather other than plain black.

The leather has molten drops over, as i wanted to make my bag look high end, this also fits the price tag of the leather too at £100 a meter.
Making the mock up of my design was very helpful as it made sure that when it came to doing the final piece it ran a lot smoother.
To go along with my bag i decided to make a coin purse which would relate to the shape, hence the pointed unboxed corners. it really compliments each other too.

The 00's

The 00's have a lot of major fashion trends which were very unique, like the Chinese slippers which often came in every colour, and were worn for nearly every occasion and for all ages.

So-called "Chinese slippers."

Girls loved to wear matching jogging outfits in mostly pink and they were worn with big jewellery and often weren't worn for working out, and mostly worn as a fashion statement.

All the rich girls and cool moms had the Juicy Couture velour jogging suits, and everyone else had the off-brand version.

Shiny trousers were also really popular and most girls loved to pair this with a matching shiny short sleeved top in a slight different shade, to give a classier feel. This trend was mostly worn by teenagers.

Shiny pants. Or worse, shiny cargo pants.

1990's

The fashion in the 1990's was toned down a lot from the previous decade and was made more classier. The main fashion items were over sized jumpers, leggings, turtle necks, and a lot of denim was also featured as well. Younger women often wore what their mums wore when they were their age.  I found that block colours were often worn and not very many patterns featured either.

1990s Womens Fashion

Boyfriend jeans sometimes held up with a black or brown belt, or sometimes they were elasticated by the waist were mainly paired with everything, denim jackets, oversized sweaters, and blouses. Denim jeans with a long Denim jacket and a thick brown or black belt was also very popular and was often worn by a lot of teenage girls.

1980's

The decade of tight trousers and leg warmers. Every outfit worn was normally neon coloured and sometimes consisted of a jumper, mini skirt and leg warmers all together. Women generally loved to make the appearance of the shoulders a lot broader than what they originally are as it looked more higher class and bigger.

Mini skirts were also very popular and they were normally paired with neon coloured leggings and some bright coloured heels. For the hair, back combed and big hair was really popular with this style. To go with these, was big earrings, whether thats hoops, or giant triangles.

The 1970s Part 2 - Feminism

Feminism has been a big problem for many years, the un equality and oppressive. Its second nature to just think that men dominate women and that men are higher than men, maybe its because they 'act stronger' or because women are known as 'weak' for some reason. I feel that all women are sisters and should all stand tall and both genders should be equal and fair on both sides, no-one higher than the other, not men being allowed to do some things which women aren't allowed to do, just fair between both genders. Women are just as strong as men, if not in some circumstances stronger but that because all have weaknesses and strengths, thats life.

Most people in the world accept the traditional gender rolls which is un fair and this shouldn't be the case because we should all be supporting each other in the best and strongest way.

Postmodernism and the 1970's

In the 1970s, Fashion was very unique and slightly on the crazy side. They liked to put colours together which wasn't normal back then and they women who did were known for being high fashion statements. Healed boots were also a popular thing in this decade along with wild print. Tye dyed top were very popular in this time period which is actually coming back in to the fashion trends which is known as the hipster trend which feature tie dye and bright un matching colours.

Both men and women liked to wear tight jumpsuits this was for people who were very slim and had a curvy figure. They had a zip of the front and would be paired with a belt around the wait to add more a look to the outfit. As you as can see this was a very colourful era and was adored for its weirdness.

Photography in the 1960's

Geometric patterns were very popular in the fashion world around this time. Most women had their own unique style and colours/patterns which they liked to wear and feel most confident in.

1960's fashion was very elegant with a bit of an edge to it with the eyeliner and the and the monochrome feel. This monochrome black and white skater skirt style dress is coming back into fashion. Being paired with the black belt and the white gloves gives it that classier feel to the look. Professional shots for women were also popular at the time.

The main hair style for the 1960s was shoulder length and normally kept into very healthy and tidy condition but sometimes messy looking up do hair was also worn to give more of an edgey feel.

The Street style was more of a basic look of a t-shirt type dress and the classic shoulder length hair with a slight fringe. For accessories the basic thin necklace looks elegant to bring the outfit together.

I would say that quite a lot of the style is coming back in to the fashion trends now like the t-shirt dress, messy buns and skater skirt dresses.
