American Modernism

American Moderists choose to work in the United States, Sometimes they were a different nationality but would be named as American, and adopted American's land, Society and Culture as there own.

The wedding dresses were very different to the traditional ones now a days, they are very dark coloured and have a high turtle neck. the top has lots of ruffles with flowers on to create a sense of elegance. The veil looks quite heavy and does float as much as one from our era, and the bottom half of the veil is folded over to be the same length as the dress. She isnt holding a bunch flowers, but has a few flower type items in her hand instead.

The first ever femele photo journalist was a women called Jessie Tarbox Beals. She wore a dark outfit which seems to be a running theme throughout this time. The top has a bow type lace around the collar which falls down the front. With that, she wore a full skirt that comes down to the top of the shoes and a thin black belt to hold it up. The jacket which is over the top has folded cuffs and a large folded collar which comes down quite low, this would have been her everyday work outfit.

The Native American Indians wore quite a loose back top with a white strips at the sleeves, with little line buttons to fasten. The bottom skirt looks kind of like a carpet/ blanket type skirt, which has been wrapped around with the fringe hanging from the bottom and the edge, This is held up with a curtain type tassles which have been braided. This is paired with a basic material shoe.

Bauhaus and WW2

The Bauhaus was founded in 1919, in Weimar by Walter Gropius who was a German architect. The theory to the Bauhaus was to remake the material world to reflect the unity of all the arts, it joined fine arts and design education. World war two began in 1939 and ended in 1945. Women around this time wore a double-breasted coat with a simple dress with collars, buttons and a belt at the waist underneigh. Women were known for being well dressed. Blackout material wasnt on ration causing women to spend their free time making skirts.

When women worked in the fatorys and other areas, they wore jumpsuits, which can in different green and white patterns, striped, polka dot and plain. They were baggy and some were pulled in at the ankles and wrist but the others were just left straight. They were perfect for working in because they are easy to move around in.

Land girls tended to wore swing dress which were mainly worn at tea parties. They normally had a polka dot pattern and were pull together at the chest area to show her curves. The neckline is quite low and the full skirt was quite long just below the knees. There were different variations of the dress around like a waist band, cupped shoulders, and buttons were added to the front of the dress.

These dresses included big collars and were worn in the 1940's. They were normally grey and white dress with a red belt, shoes and purse to match each other. Another normality was a black and white dress with black wedges. These were the classic dress which were shown on the ad models magazine.
